After finding my interest in glia I took up the offer of a PhD looking at their metabolic interactions with axons. My research focuses on Schwann cells of the peripheral nervous system as well as astrocytes of the central nervous system using techniques including stimulus evoked compound action potential electrophysiology, lactate biosensors and fluorescent immunohistochemistry. In addition to lab work, I also enjoy supervising and teaching undergraduate students as well as communicating science more broadly through outreach activities.

Abimbola Adelaja is a Nigerian trained Veterinary Surgeon. He graduated from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria where he was awarded his DVM and Masters in Veterinary Physiology in 2012 and 2017 respectively. Our environment, occupation and diet expose us to various toxicants which are major contributing factors in the etiology of various diseases through the generation of reactive oxygen species. Imbalance between the body’s antioxidant system and the production of reactive oxygen species in the human body alters a lot of physiological functions.
